KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): A cyclist from southern Kandahar province said on Sunday he had decided to pedal his way to Saudi Arabia with a peace message.
In an exclusive interview, Kandahar Cycling Club Chairman Amir Mohammad, 54, told Pajhwok Afghan News every Afghan desired peace in the country.
Like his compatriots, Mohammad said he wanted to convey the peace message to the Saudi government and people. He also plans offering prayers in Kaaba, the holiest place in the world.
Neither the government nor NGOs had assisted him in undertaking the journey, explained the man, who urged national traders to help him.
The distance between Kandahar and Saudi Arabia is nearly 6,850 kilometres and he plans to cover it in 50 days. He may also use boats for crossing some ports.
Director of Sports Mudir Agha claimed providing possible facilities to Mohammad, who would embark on the trip in mid-Ramadan (July 23) from Kandahar through Iran and Iraq.
