Food on display in Herat ahead of Ramadan

HEART CITY (PAN): A three-day exhibition showcasing women-made handicrafts and food items was inaugurated in eastern Herat province on Saturday.
The show at the Khudijatul Kubra women’s bazaar has been arranged by the Herat Women’s Affairs department, an official said.
Women’s Affairs Director Mehbooba Jamshidi told Pajhwok Afghan News 50 stalls had been established. Most products were hand-made products and food items prepared by women and local industries, she said.
She added the show was aimed at introducing food and other items used during the holy month of Ramadan to the people.
Salma, one of the participants, said she had put on sale food and other items at her stall. Most items at her stall have been prepared by poor women in villages and urban areas.
She hoped the show would help attract people’s attention towards the items made by local women, who would gain economic benefits from the sales of handicrafts.
Around 16 stalls at the exhibition showcased items produced by local industries. Visitors also evinced a keen interest in ice cream, biscuits and other stuff made by local industries.
One of the visitors, Mohammad Arif Irfan, believed the items at the show had affordable prices. He said it was a matter of pleasure that such things were locally produced.
