GARDEZ (Pajhwok): An anti-militancy and toy gun campaign launched by provincial council members, civil society activists and children has ended on Saturday in southeastern Paktia province.
Wadan Afghanistan Party (WAP) launched the campaign in the province in which children broke their toy guns and picked up books and pens instead in a move to express hatred for guns and fighting.
Syed-u-Rahman Niazi, member of WAP, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We will like to create awareness among people regarding use of weapons. The huge participation by people has an ample proof that people are fed up with weapons. Our children need pens and books instead.”
“We will continue our campaigns in the province until people attention are brought towards education against weapons and war,” he noted.
Mohammad Rahman Qadari, provincial council member, praised the campaign and greater participation of people in such activities. “We demand government ban on selling of toy guns.”
Ahmad Faisal 10 said: “We fade up with war and fighting. We want education for a better tomorrow. Children should use other toys instead of toy guns,” he said.
