Newly-elected Herat PC members sworn-in

KABUL (Pajhwok): The newly-elected provincial council (PC) members of western Herat province were sworn-in on Thursday after weeks of protests by losing candidates, officials said.
The oath-taking ceremony took place in the provincial human rights department attended by over 200 people.
Acting Herat Governor Sayed Fazlullah Wahidi while addressing the new PC members, said their first commitment should be to serve the masses.
“By placing your hands on the Holy Quran you’ve have promised to work for people. If you fail to do so that will have very negative effect on you,” he added.
Kamran Ali Rezaee, the newly-elected head of the Herat provincial council, said they would work closely with the local authorities for the development of the province.
The oath-taking ceremony took place after two weeks of protests by losing candidates who accused both the electoral commissions of committing fraud during the April 5 elections.
At least 260 candidates contested the election in Herat out of which 19 of them made their way to the provincial council.
