Tribal elders want early vote results

 
GARDEZ/MAIDAN SHAHAR (Pajhwok): Tribal elders in southeastern Paktia and central Maidan Wardak provinces urged the electoral commissions to announce the election results without further delay.
Tribal elders, youths civil society members and religious scholars from 13 districts participated at a gathering in Gardez—the provincial capital of Paktia. Participants said further delay in release of the results was unacceptable.
Speaking on the occasion, Janat Khan Mangal, a tribal elder, urged the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and international community to respect vote of the people.
“The nation has lost patience. We will launch series of protest if the results are not announced on schedule,” he threatened.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people at a gathering in Maidan Wardak province, described setting up of chief executive post in contravention to the constitution. They also urged the polls results should be announced as soon as possible.
A tribal council head, Wahidullah Kalimzai, said setting up a chief executive post was against the spirit of constitution.
Kalimzai and his colleague at Wolesi Jirga, Sher Wali Wardak, said swearing-in ceremony of the new presidents should be held on September 2.
