HIA wants early election results

KABUL (Pajhwok):  The Hizb-e-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) urged the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Saturday to ensure timely announcement of the final results in collaboration with the United Nations (UN).
The HIA held its conference in Kabul in which 3,000 people participated. Qazi Muhammad Amin Qaqad, president of HIA’s alliance, told the gathering that Afghans thronged to the polling stations and expressed greater enthusiasm by casting vote in the national process.
He however, lamented over the delay in the announcement of results, which created uncertainty and chaos among people. He underlined the need that the IEC should made public the ballots results before the NATO Summit scheduled to be held in Wales next month.
The HICA backed Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai in the runoff presidential elections held on June 14. “Both candidates must cooperate to ensure early conclusion of the polls’ results,” he said, threatening to launch nation-wide protests if the results were not announced on schedule.
