District HQ relocated amid Taliban attacks

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): A district headquarters has been relocated in southern Ghazni province due to security concerns, an official said on Wednesday.
The Zankhan district centre was shifted to a place near Ghazni City due to continuing Taliban attacks, the provincial police chief said.
Brig. Gen. Zarawar Zahid told Pajhwok Afghan News 10 security posts had been established to guard the headquarters five kilometers from Ghazni City.
He said the decision to shift the headquarters came at a security meeting that also discussed opening a voter registration centre in the new place.
Zahid said 16 insurgents had been killed and as many wounded in a series of operations in the troubled district over the past 10 days. Seven policemen also suffered casualties.
Zankhan dwellers said the Taliban carried out attacks on the district centre at night. Ahmad Shah, a resident, said: “The militants have hoisted their flag on buildings a few metres from the district centre.”
