Woman held in connection with MP’s kidnap

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Security personnel have arrested a woman in southern Ghazni province on the charge of keeping a kidnapped lawmaker from Kandahar province in her house, officials said on Wednesday.
MP Fariba Ahmadi Kakar was kidnapped along with her children by Taliban 12 days ago in the Noghi area on the Kabul-Kandahar highway on the outskirts of Ghazni City. Later, her children were freed but she is still in captivity.
A family member of the detained woman, Maqbul Ahmad, told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces raided their house on Tuesday night and arrested his aunt.
Some tribal elders of the village visited Governor Musa Khan Akbarzada to seek the woman’s release, said a resident of the area, Mohammadullah.
Akbarzada told the elders the woman was behind the abduction of the MP, saying police would not release her until residents freed the lawmaker.
“We don’t know who abducted Fariba Kakar, because there are many armed groups operating in our area,” he said.
A security official, who wished anonymity, said the detained woman had confessed during interrogations to keeping the legislator in her home. The MPs was shifted 10 minutes before the raid, he added.
