GHAZNI CITY (PAN): The United States, not interested in an end to the war in Afghanistan, is funding Taliban operations against the government, the Ghazni appellant court chief alleged on Saturday.
Judge Khwaja Mir Mohammad Haqdad levelled the allegations against the US at a ceremony marking the release of 41 prisoners in accordance with the presidential decree on the occasion of Ramadan.
He asked how fighters entered major cities and conducted suicide attacks in broad daylight, despite an American military presence, sophisticated equipment, security cameras and satellites.
Neither foreigners would leave Afghanistan nor Taliban join the peace process, claimed the judge, who urged fighters to break free from foreigners’ control and take part in the reconstruction of the country.
In addition to the release of 41 inmates, prison terms of six others had been reduced by two years in compliance with the presidential decree, the court chief said.
He would stay aloof from activities that harmed him, his family and the country, promised a resident of Andar district, Mohammadullah, who spent four years in jail.
