KABUL (Pajhwok): Several development projects have been completed and work on others is in progress in eastern Laghman, northern Balkh and central Kabul provinces, officials said on Wednesday.
Two projects costing 24 million afghanis were inaugurated in Laghman. Laghman acting governor Dr. Fazlullah Mujeddedi on Wednesday inaugurated construction work on a retaining wall measuring 230 metres in the Alishang district.
The 11 million afghanis project would protect nearby homes and agricultural land of residents from being flooded by the Aishang River, the governor said.

MEHTERLAM (Pajhwok): Three persons were killed and five others wounded on Tuesday in a gun battle between two groups of Laghman lawmakers in Mehtarlam City, the provincial capital, witnesses said.
Wahidullah, an eye witness, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Eng. Ajmal Wafa and Yousaf Malangzai, both the lawmakers from Laghman, exchanged harsh words which developed into an armed clash. The bodyguards and supporters of the lawmakers opened fire on each other which caused several casualties.

3 dead in fight between supporters of lawmakers

Laghman is one of strategically important provinces located in the country’s eastern zone. The province is bordering Badakhshan, Nangarhar and Kabul in north, Kunar in east and Kabul and Kapisa provinces in west.

Being a mountainous province, the province has four districts such as of Qarghayee, Alingar, Alishing and Daulat Shah.

Having historical importance, the province has abundant mineral resources, but unfortunately there were no credible information about the quantity of its mines due to poor cooperation of provincial mining department.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The presence of a large number of irresponsible gunmen poses a serious threat to security in eastern Laghman province, a public representative said on Sunday.

In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, the Laghman provincial council secretary blamed the security forces for failing to rein in gun-toting individuals.

Mohammad Zahir Hassankhel said he had shared the issue with the governor’s house, but remedial measures had not been taken so far.
