MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Ballot process formally started at 7:00 am on Saturday throughout the country.
Long queues of voters are seen waiting for their turn in the Laghman provinces.
According to IEC, around 12 million eligible voters would exercise their right to vote in 6,365 polling stations. At least 400,000 security personnel had been deployed to ensure stringent security measures for the ballot.
For the last several elections, 21 million people in the country obtained their voter cards, with four million of them obtained voter cards in this election.

PUL-I-ALAM/ LASHKARGAH, QALAT, MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Three militants were killed and five others, including two policemen wounded in bomb blasts and clashes in southern Zabul, Helmand, central Logar and eastern Laghman provinces on Saturday, officials said.
Three civilians were injured in a mine blast at a station in Mughal Khel High School in Mohammad Agha district, said Abdul Halim, the district administrative chief.
Soon after the blast, he said security forces cordoned off the area and voters had returned to cast their vote.

Jalalabad (PAN): Laghman officials said people’s economy depend 80 % on agriculture and livestock but multiple problems still create hurdles for farmers and leave negative impact on their economy.
They admitted some projects are implemented during the last few years but the sector face formidable challenges, which need to be resolved by establishing processing factories and large warehouse.
Agriculture:

Jalalabad (PAN): The vital education sector achieved visible progress in Laghman province, however, lack of professional teachers with schools having no buildings hampering progress of education sector.
Asadullah Roya, the head of provincial education department told Pajhwok Afghan News 291 schools are offering services in education sector to educate boys and girls in the province.
Providing minute details regarding functional education institution, Roya said 119 out of 291 are high and the rests are intermediate and primary schools.

The people of Laghman are ready to participate in the elections but they are fed up with the insecurity in the province.
The province, consisting of four districts, is located some 140 kilometres east of Kabul. Majority of the people there are farmers. The report is prepared on the basis of interviews with eight people from three districts and the provincial capital. Two of the interviewees are girls.
