KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Presidential contender Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Wednesday vowed to upgrade the Sher Khan Port and build a railway line in northern Kunduz province if he won the April 5 vote.
Addressing a huge gathering in connection with his election campaign, Ghani said transit routes linking Afghanistan with some regional countries passed through Kunduz, enhancing the importance of Sheer Khan port.

Kunduz is one of the ancient and historical provinces located to the northeastern of Afghanistan. During different times, the province has had different names such as Apaska, Kuhandiz and Kunduz.
Kunduz has occupied an important geo-strategic location. It was the military base of Alexander The Great during 330-BC when he attacked Bessus and declared himself the king of Apaska (Kunduz).

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Police detained two persons after a bomb was defused near the venue where presidential contender Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai was to address a public gathering in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Wednesday.
Police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News the mine had been planted in front of the Pamir Hotel in Kunduz City, the provincial capital.
Police defused the explosive before it could have played havoc with participants of a scheduled rally at the hotel, he said.

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Big rallies were organized on Wednesday in support of presidential candidates Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Dr. Abdullah Abduallah in northern Kunduz and Takhar provinces.
Haji Malik Mohammad, chief of the Zakhil tribe, said they backed Ghani as presidential contender because he was well-educated and experienced enough to pull country out of problems.

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Security officials said on Sunday 22 of the 218 polling stations faced high security risks in northeastern Kunduz province, but efforts were being made to protect the sites.
Kunduz police chief, Brig. Gen. Mustafa Mohseni, said the 22 polling stations were located in Khanabad, Chahar Dara, Qala Zal and Dasht-i-Archi districts.
He said new police posts would be established to provide security for the polling sites, admitting rebels posed a serious threat in Qala Zal and Khanabad towns.
