Kunduz to be made economic hub: Ghani

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Presidential contender Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Wednesday vowed to upgrade the Sher Khan Port and build a railway line in northern Kunduz province if he won the April 5 vote.
Addressing a huge gathering in connection with his election campaign, Ghani said transit routes linking Afghanistan with some regional countries passed through Kunduz, enhancing the importance of Sheer Khan port.
Accompanied by Abdur Rashid Dostum, his choice for first vice-president, the former finance minister pledged efforts to attract investment to the province and boost trade activities at the port.
In addition, Ghani promised to evolve a modern mechanism for the development of agriculture, expansion of airports and creation of two new districts in the province.
Ghani condemned yesterday’s bomb blast in Maimana, the capital of northwestern Faryab province, saying the enemy wanted to scare the Afghans away from the election.
Sarwar Danish, his second vice-president, called Kunduz a backward province. He said the love of Kunduz residents had prompted Ghani to visit the province.
