 KABUL (PAN): Independent Election Commission (IEC) Secretary Ziaul Haq Amarkhel on Saturday urged parliament to approve an amended electoral law as soon as possible because any delay would negatively affect the poll process.

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Barack Obama has said the US military will continue to hunt down terrorists in any country, using air strikes to take out Islamic State leaders and their infrastructure.
France, Germany and the United Kingdom had already ramped up their contributions to the military campaign against Daesh in Syria and Iraq, he said in his address to the nation on Sunday.
“We will continue to provide training and equipment to Iraqi and Syrian forces fighting ISIL on the ground so that we take away their safe havens,” the president said in a televised speech.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Five governors on Saturday said the Cabinet, in compliance with directives from President Ashraf Ghani, had decided to replace acting officials, including provincial governors, until the end of this ongoing fiscal year.
Under the presidential directives, from now on provincial governors on their turn would attend Cabinet meetings and individually speak about their priorities and problems and then the Cabinet would make decisions accordingly.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Haji Zahir Qadeer, lawmaker from eastern Nangarhar province, has rejected reports that he wants to raise his private militias to battle the insurgency.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday night in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, Qadeer said he was against the creation of militias but was prepared to fight against the insurgents in Nangarhar.

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday directed security officials to go ahead with an ongoing operation to purge Kunduz and the entire northern zone of militants.
Speaking to military officials through a video link, the president pledged that officials, whose negligence caused the fall of Kunduz City to the insurgents would be punished.
He discussed the latest security environment in the restive province with senior officials and directed them to take care of civilians and make sure they were not harmed in any way.
