Provincial Council Elections

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Secretary of the provincial council has alleged that some members of the council in western Herat province use force and extra-legal measures in order to resolve problems of the residents.
Sakina Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News use of force by some members was a major a major hurdle in their work which caused residents to have conflicting views regarding the council.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 500 armed rebels have stormed Wantwigel district center in eastern Nuristan province, sparking a fierce firefight with police, an official said on Thursday.
The district is situated on the edge with Manogay district which is under Taliban control.
Yar Gul, acting district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News hundreds of 500 militants from Manogay, Katar and Kambir districts attacked the district early Thursday morning. The gun fight was still ongoing, he added.

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Members of provincial council in northwestern Jawzjan province claimed settling a large number of problems particularly addressing tribal disputes but some were not satisfied with their performance.
Results of the provincial council election of April 5 elections were announced in November 2014. After the provincial councils’ ballot result, the parliament decided to limit the right of provincial council with regard of evaluation of local departments’ performance.

SHARAN (Pajhwok): The provincial council of southeastern Paktika province expressed grave concern over poor health services and complained the entire province had not even a single female health professional.
The council secretary Aziz Orguni in an exclusive interview told Pajhwok Afghan News the council members had visited many areas in the past few months.
He said their evaluation showed that there was no female doctor and only few professional male doctors were serving in the province to treat patients.

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Secretary of Mesharano Jirga and some provincial council members on Monday warned Taliban were marching ahead to capture Kunduz City, the provincial capital of northern Kunduz province.
In the past 24 hours, Taliban succeeded to capture Dasht-i-Archi and Chahardara districts.
Some lawmakers from Kunduz said despite collapse of two important districts, more areas of the province were under looming threat from the enemy.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least two provincial council members have never attended the elected body’s sessions in eastern Nuristan province, the acting governor said on Monday.
Hafiz Abdul Qayum told Pajhwok Afghan News the two had been living in Kabul and had never attended the council meetings since their election, while the remaining four members irregularly attended the sessions.
The Nuristan provincial council has nine members. Qayum said the Independent Directorate of Local Government should take notice of the absenteeism and find a permanent solution to the issue.
