AYBAK (PAN): Residents of Samangan complained the province was facing acute shortage of irrigation water and lack of school buildings.
They said people elsewhere in the province were confronting with years old potable water problem that could not be resolved after repeated complaints.
Mohammadullah, a resident of Afghania Village in Hazrat Sultan district  told Pajhwok News Agency they could not cultivate their vast land due to lack of irrigation water.
He went on to say he had his own four acres agricultural land and half of his land went uncultivated every year. “The irrigation problem can be tackled if the dam is constructed in the district,” he assured.
Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Konah Village of Aibak City said he had two acres cultivable land but he could not grow crop over his land since last five years due to water shortage problem. Most of the land in the city went uncultivated every year, he lamented.
He demanded the government should construct dams, which would leave far-reaching positive impact on the locals’ as well as country’s economy.
Samangan Governor Khairillah Anosh said the shortage of irrigation water issue was going complicated by each passing day, which impact production of the province negatively.
The three Aab Koli, Mughal and Qochandara dams in the province direly needed to be built with further delay,” he added. The construction of the dams would help resolve irrigation problem of Hazrat Sultan and Roy Doab, Feroz Nakhchir districts and other localities.
Located between the Khoram-o-Sarbagh district and Aibak City, reconstruction of Qochan Dara would help tackle the long-standing irrigation problem of the area, the governor said while requesting the central government to extend all out possible support to resolve the legitimate problems of the locals.
Residents in Samangan said the vital education sector was in disarray throughout the province with no measures could be taken by the government to overhaul the vital sector. “Schools have lack buildings with the entire education process are moving quite slowly because of the absence of professional teachers,” they added.
Mustafa, a resident of Khoram-o-Sarbagh district told Pajhwok Afghan News majority of the schools in the district had no buildings, forcing the schools to remain shut down during the winter because of snowfalls and rains.
Mohammad Anwar, a student of central high school of Roye Doab district said some of the students after graduation from the school got themselves appointed as teacher in the same school who were ineligible for the posts. “I cannot identify those got themselves appointed but there are a number of teachers who have passed only the grade 8th,” he added. 
Voicing the same concerns, education authorities said they had taken some measures to address the problems being confronted by the education sector.
Bashir Salahi, deputy at Education Directorate told Pajhwok Afghan News they were striving to resolve challenges being confronted to the education department. He said his province had a total of 290 schools with 50% of them were facing lack of buildings. As many as 35 % are female among the 110,000 students who are being imparted education by 2,300 teachers,” he informed.
He said during the current year, 13 school buildings would be constructed with the financial assistance extended by the Sweden government. He said the problem of lack of professional teachers was of a serious magnitude, adding he was striving to help resolve the professional teachers issue as soon as possible.
