SHARAN (PAN): People of the volatile southeastern Paktika province demand the government and the international community to strengthen security, build the shattered infrastructure with special reference promote and bring positive changes in the vital agriculture field.   
   
 
Talking to Pajhwok Afghan News, Durani Mohammad Khel, a tribal elder and resident of Sharan city said construction of power dam in Plato area was the long-standing demand of the people of the province.
 
He said the concerned department should take tangible measures construct dams in Park and Zami Khola areas as economy of Paktika residents mostly depended on agriculture and livestock.
 
He revealed early construction of dams would help irrigate thousands of acres of agriculture lands and help provide electricity to vast area of the province.
 
Mohammadullah, a resident of Urgon district said the roads leading from capital city to his town and other districts were ungraveled, adding that concerned departments should address genuine problems.
 
The International Development Bank (IDB) allocated a proper budget for construction of roads leading from Urgon to Sharan city and Angor Ada, according to Mohammadullah who said construction work on the project would yet start.
 
Abdul Rahman, a resident of the capital city said development activities witnessed halt over the past few years in the province. A number of projects were executed under the National Solidarity Program (NSP) in Sharan city nine years ago but no progress could be seen in terms of its completion.
 
Having access to potable water, electricity, graveling of roads and extraction are among main demands of the public, he said, adding big oil reserve was detected during the soviet invasion, said, Ezat Khan Katwazai a resident of Janikhel district.
 
Government employees could not commute between Khoshamand and Wazikhwah district due to heavy presence of armed rebels, said Abdul Ghani Paktin a member of provincial council.
 
As a result, many residents had been deprived of government assistance with the concerned officials were unable to visit the area to identify people problems.  
 
He asked the authorities to adopt measures to purge the area of insurgents.
 
With a similar tone, Rassul Khan, a resident of the same locality said militants were still roaming freely in parts of the capital city and Mita Khan District. He said government officials found it almost impossible to go for work, demanding the government was needed to deploy Afghan National Army (ANA) in the area to dismantle militants’ activities.
