Located in northwestern of Afghanistan, Nuristan province has eight administrative units including its capital Parun. Wama, Kamdish, Barg-i-matal, Duaab, Noorgram, Want Waigal and Mandol are its known districts.
1 – Parun:
Parun is the capital of the province containing around 30 villages. According to recent study, its population surges to 67,000 individuals. The province has little agricultural land with its residents eke out their livelihood from its densely forests.
2 – Bargmatal:
This is the far flung district in northeast of Parun bordering with Chatral, and Kran Manjan district of Badakhshan province.  The district has a total population of 85,000 individuals.
Kamdish District:
The Kamdish district is located to the east of Parun bordering Pakistan’s Chatral and Ghazi Abad and Narrai districts of Kunar province. Its total strength is 85,000 individual.
Want Waigal:
The district is located to the south of Parun bordering Kunar province. Its population is 55,000 individuals.
5 – Wama:
The Wama district is located to the south of Parun and shares border with Chapa Dara district of Kunar province. Its population is 20,000 individuals.
6 – Duaab:
The district is located to the west of Parun bordering Dawlat Shah District of Laghman province.  Its population is 35,000 individuals.
7 – Noorgram:
The district is located to the west of Parun bordering Alingar district of Laghman province. Its population is 60, 000 individuals.
8 – Mandol:
The district is located to the west of Parun and shares borders with Panjshir and Kran Manjan district of Badakshan province. Its population is 90,000 individuals. Almost all districts of the province is covered by forests.
