The people of Laghman are ready to participate in the elections but they are fed up with the insecurity in the province.
The province, consisting of four districts, is located some 140 kilometres east of Kabul. Majority of the people there are farmers. The report is prepared on the basis of interviews with eight people from three districts and the provincial capital. Two of the interviewees are girls.
The province has nine seats in its provincial council. Three of them are women. A total of 20 people are in the field for the provincial council seats and five of them are women.
A poor man: Ensure security
Anwar, 21, resident of Kotali village of Alishang district is taking part in the elections. He says no change has been occurred in his life in the past five years. Instead, he says, security in the area has been deteriorated. He believes the foreigners were responsible for the insecurity and they must be expelled from the country.
Student: Improvement has been occurred in life as compared to the past
Yasra, a resident of Tergai area of Mehtarlam cit, who is student at the 12 th class, says she will take part in the election to decide her fate.
She says positive changes have been occurred in life conditions in the past five years. Their refugee life has ended and her father is now working at a hospital. She says roads and schools have also been constructed in that period.
She says foreigners were responsible for the problems of Afghanistan and it was because they have taken control of the country in their own hands.
Labourer: Everything is impossible without security
Tariq, 22, resident of Manjan village of Alishang district is father of two children. He said security is important than everything. His first demand from the president is to ensure security in the country.
He is taking part in the presidential elections, but not in the provincial council elections as he says he does not know what they have done in the past years.
He says his previous life is better because he had a shop, but does not have the same now. He has gone to Iran for job but still his life does not improve.
He says the first problem was non-availability of electricity and the second of no education courses for them.
Resident of Daulat Shah district: We are fed with Americans
Fateh Muhammad, 48, resident of Nigrahi village of Daulat Shah district, says his life standard dropped in the past five years. Fateh has three wives and 11 children. He says three of his sons are employed in the National Army but they are not assisting him. The rest are labourers.
Because of insecurity in his village, he is not confident that people will be able to take part in the elections. He says there is an American base in his village and people are fed up with them. Their air crafts are landing and taking off all the night and people can’t sleep well.
Government official: Ensure peace
Haji Saifur Rahman Mangal, 64, who is resident of Alingar district, has six sons. He is taking part in the elections to decide his own fate. He says his life has improved as compared to the past but security situation has deteriorated.
He says several reconstruction works have been completed in his village in the past five years, but insecurity is still there. His foremost demand from the president is to ensure security in the province.
Teacher: Foreigners should be expelled
Faizanullah, 37, resident of Mehtarlam, says no positive change occurred in his life in the  past five years. He said they remained under fear because of insecurity.
His first demand from the president is to expel the foreigners. He said the foreigners were responsible for the insecurity in the country.
Resident of Alishang: Vote is our national responsibility
Abdul Qadeer, 33, resident of Jaraba area of Alishang district, says he is taking part in the election as it is his national responsibility. He says no development works have been done in his village in the past five years. Rather, security situation has been deteriorated.
His foremost demand from the future president is to ensure peace in the country.
Resident of Charbagh: Election is important
Maryam, 19, resident of Charbagh district, says she is taking part in the elections as it is directly related to the progress and prosperity of the country.
She elections provide the chance to people to elect their representatives and leaders. This is why; all people should take part in the elections. She knows only three among the presidential candidates.
