KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The governor of northern Kunduz province Mohammad Umar Safi on Monday alleged the gradually emerging Islamic State (IS) terror group was all bent to spread their vicious campaign to the Central Asian Countries.
Speaking at a gathering, the governor said large scale offensive would soon be launched against Taliban and the IS fighters in the province.
Safi claimed as many as 70 insurgents belonging to IS were active in Dasht-i-Archi and Chahar Dara districts.
Lawmakers, former Jihadi leaders, tribal elders, businessmen, civil society activists and provincial council members were present at the gathering.
Major powers had been fueling insecurity in peaceful provinces of northern part of the country in order to pose threat to central Asian countries for achieving their targets, he added.
Wolesi Jirga Member Fatima Aziz said: “Foreigners imposed so-called war on terror on us and did not want political and economic development of Afghanistan.”
She lamented foreigners wanted to use Afghanistan as a launching pad to get their targets in Central Asia by spreading bloodshed.
Provincial Council Member Asadullah Umarkhel said government negligence offered an opportunity to rebels to strengthen their position in Kunduz and create instability.
He warned Taliban and IS were involved in spreading ethnic and sectarian violence among people which would have dangerous consequences in the long-run.
