ANA soldier among 8 dead in Sar-i-Pul clash

SAR-I-PUL CITY/MAIMANA (Pajhwok): One Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier and eight rebels have been killed in an overnight clash on the outskirts of Sar-i-Pul City, the provincial capital, an official said on Tuesday.
Director Operation Lt. Sayyed Naqibullah Sadaat said the gun battle erupted Monday afternoon and lasted until 10:00 pm, leaving ANA service member, two police personnel and as many insurgents wounded.
Elsewhere, a 22-year-old man succumbed to injuries after he was severely tortured by Taliban in the Balcharagh district of northwestern Faryab province, Col. Mohammad Naeem Andarabi, director of National Directorate of Security (NDS) said.
Mirwis Daudzai, the acting district chief, confirmed the incident. He said Khair Mohammad, the slain person was the resident of Darzab district, who had neither personal enmity nor was a government servant.
