KABUL (Pajhwok): Protesting provincial council candidates in Kabul warned on Saturday of hampering the oath-taking ceremony.

Some 30 losing candidates and their supporters staged a protest, demanding creation of a special tribunal to investigate the provincial council elections and suspend the results.

Alleging glaring irregularities in the elections, they warned of a nation-wide agitation if their demands were not met.

Muhammad Dawood Asas, representing PC candidates from southern Zabul province, claimed he has proof of corruption and bribery in the elections. “I have documents to prove winning candidates have paid 30 to 40 thousand dollars each”, he said.

The oath ceremony of the provincial council winners scheduled to start on next Wednesday and would take up to four weeks in all over the country to complete.

Rafiullah Gul Attayee who was announced as winner for Kabul provincial council but removed his name in final result said, “If our demands do not paid attention we would block highways and avoid oath ceremonies,”

He accused IEC and IECC official on taking bribe and said, “We have several evidence including video clips, photos and documents that proves the election commission members had taken bribe from some individuals to announce them as winners,”

However, the election commission officials called the protestors’ claims as baseless.
