CHARIKAR/GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Six militants were killed and 17 others, including civilians and Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, wounded in separate incidents in central Parwan and southeastern Paktia provinces, officials said on Saturday.
Six ANA soldiers suffered injuries in a road accident in the Shinwari district of Parwan province, the district police chief, Col. Hussain Shah Maqsoodi, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The vehicles the ANA soldiers were traveling in collided with a curved part of mountain.
Separately, six insurgents were killed in a showdown with security forces in the Shashtar and Darazgard areas of Shiwari district, Maqsoodi added. The militants were planning to carry out a big sabotage act on several polling stations.
In Paktia, 11 civilians were wounded in a roadside bomb blast near polling site in Ahmadabad district, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) director, said.
Soon after the explosion, authorities prompted to shut down the polling station temporarily.
Dr. Hayaddin, civil hospital director, confirmed receiving 11 wounded from the blast. The injured were stated to be in stable condition, he concluded.
