Mahmud Karzai, scores of MPs back Abdullah

 
KABUL (Pajhwok): Mahmud Karzai, President Hamid Karzai’s brother, and several parliamentarians on Monday announced support to Dr. Abdullah in the June 14 runoff.
Addressing a gathering here, Mahmud Karzai said he had joined Abdullah’s camp for the sake of national unity and political and economic stability of Afghanistan.  
He cited unemployment and a weak economy as grave problems, saying that Abdullah’s team had a comprehensive plan to address the problems.
Domestic power generation, road and railway construction, development of the agriculture sector and construction of townships were Karzai’s condition for supporting Abdullah.  
Several members of the Wolesi Jirga and Meshrano Jirga also lent their weight to Abdullah. About 110 Wolesi Jirga members and 66 senators announced supporting him.
Senator Nisar Hares, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, said they would back Abdullah in the runoff.  He claimed the candidate would an outright winner and his team would be able to tackle challenges.
Abdullah read out the names of the parliamentarians and prominent political figures who have announced support to him.
