Rassoul, Abdullah and Sayyaf woo voters

KABUL (Pajhwok): As electioneering is gaining momentum, presidential runners Zalmai Rassoul, Dr Abdullah Abdullah and Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf on Tuesday addressed gatherings amid promises to launch record development projects if they won the April 5 elections.
Speaking to thousands of supporters in central Bamyan province, Rassoul promised he would invest in the Haji Gak iron-ore project to create job opportunities for youth.
The mine in central Bamyan province, estimated to contain around 1.8 billion tonnes of high-quality iron ore deposits, was discovered 50 years ago.
Rassoul also vowed special attention to lure investment and tourists to the province, saying Bamyan was peaceful. He would further improve its security if he won the elections.
About electricity projects, he said: “Ours are not empty promises. My team has evaluated all provinces and will employ available resources to develop the entire country.”
Similarly, Abdullah addressed a huge gathering in western Herat province, promising them to bolster security, implement development projects and reconstruct water dams if he won the ballot.
Abdullah said implementation of electricity projects, improvement of industries and work on Herat-Khawf railroad were among his top priorities.
Improving Bamyan security, finding job and education opportunities for youth, eliminating violence against women, improving handcrafts, construction of sports stadium and freedom of women participation in the government were his primary goals.
Abdullah asked all the participants to support him in the election campaign and use their vote in favour of his team.
Another presidential runner, Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf told his supporters in eastern Nangarhar province he would protect Jihad values if he won the April 5 vote.
“I promise you I will form a government system dreamt by your martyrs, fathers and grandfathers,” he vowed.
