PUL-I-KHUMRI/KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): Five members of a family, including a man who recently joined the peace process, were shot dead and two others wounded by unidentified gunmen in northern Baghlan province, an official said on Saturday.
The shooting took place late on Friday when the family members were on their way from Kunduz to neighboring Baghlan province to attend a wedding party.
Aliabad district chief, Mahboobullah Syedi told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack in the Jarkhushk area of Baghlan-i-Markazi district killed five people, including four women. Another woman and a child were injured.
“Qari Amiri was formerly a Taliban member who recently joined the peace process. An elder of the family is an Afghan Local Police (ALP) commander in Aliabad district,” Syedi said.
But Mohammad Laeq, a resident of Baghlan-i-Markazi district, said five women and a man were killed in the incident. “The hapless family was travelling to Kunduz and insurgents shot them all.”
