200 shops gutted by Parwan blaze

CHARIKAR (PAN): Three were wounded and 200 shops gutted by a huge fire in the Siah Gird district bazaar of central Parwan province on Monday, an official said.
District Mayor Ahmad Khitab Babakarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News the blaze erupted following a gas cylinder explosion in the crowded bazaar at 9am.
The explosion set off fire at a nearby fuel shop, he said, adding the flames engulfed almost all shops within minutes. There is no fire service in the district.
Babakarkhel said the inferno left three people injured, completely burning 200 shops of different items and causing heavy losses.
One of affected shopkeepers, Mohammad Masoom Mujaddedi, confirmed the incident happened as a consequence of a gas cylinder blast inside a shop. He estimated the losses at $2 million.
