TIRINKOT (PAN): Two separate explosions killed six security men and injured 14 others, mostly civilians, in the central province of Uruzgan, officials said on Tuesday.
The first blast took place in Tirinkot, the provincial capital, late on Monday, injuring nine civilians and two policemen, deputy police chief Col. Mohammad Salim told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The explosives had been planted on a bicycle parked in front of a health clinic in central part of the city. The bomb was remotely detonated when a police vehicle passed by, he said.
A doctor on duty at the Civil Hospital, Ezatullah, confirmed receiving eight injured civilians and two policemen from the blast site. Two of the injured were referred to a provincial reconstruction team (PRT)-run hospital for being critical, he said.
The second explosion occurred in the Khas Uruzgan district hours apart the first blast, killing three Afghan National Army troops and as many Afghan Local Police (ALP) members, the district chief said.
Hamidullah added the security officials had seized a bomb-rigged motorcycle which went off as they attempted to defuse it inside their post.
So far three bomb explosions have taken place in the province since the start of the holy month of Ramadan, killing and injuring mostly civilians.
