FARAH (PAJHWOK): The militants have set free seven persons, including five school students, they kidnapped last week in western Farah province, an official said Sunday.
Abdul Rahim Haidari, administrative chief of Pashtoonkot district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban had kidnapped some seven persons when security forces arrested a person associated with militants last week. 
He said one of the released men was teacher while the rests were students of Shuhadai Gumnam High School. The released persons, he said were the residents of Duzdbad and Kazimabad villages.

FARAH CITY/QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Protest rallies were staged on Monday in western Farah and northwestern Badghis provinces against Wolesi Jirga’s decision barring provincial councils from overseeing the performance of provincial entities.
On Wednesday, the lower house amended the law on provincial councils by a majority vote, barring PCs from evaluating and overseeing the performance of local government departments.
The decision sparked protests by PC members in several provinces and they closed their offices to put pressure on the lower house to reverse its decision.

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): The Khak-i-Safid district chief in western Farah province, who was appointed by the former president, has not been allowed yet by the ex-governor to start his duty.
An investigation by Pajhwok Afghan News reveals Khuda Dad, the acting district chief, has been receiving only 4,700 afghanis in monthly salary.
An amount of 40,000 afghanis ($700), which a district chief is supposed to draw in monthly pay, has been still going to the former district chief, Abdul Khaliq.

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Accused of embezzlement, a number of senior officials including the acting governor of western Farah province were sacked and referred to the attorney general office (AGO) on Monday.
According to some media reports, the officials included Governor Mohammad Omar Sherzad, police chief, National Directorate of Security (NDS) head and customs director.
All of the accused have been introduced to the AGO. Some weeks back, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani had sacked senior officials of western Herat province. Some of them were introduced to the AGO.
