Police involved in fraud to face action

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Tuesday said it would take serious legal actions against the police officials found involved in electoral fraud.
A day earlier, some running mates of presidential candidates accused police officials of meddling in Saturday’s presidential and provincial council ballot.
The interior ministry’s spokesman, Sediq Siddiqui, told a news conference in Kabul so far 14 police officials had been arrested on charges of violating the election law.
If proofs were provided of police officials’ involvement in unlawful practices during the vote, they would be brought to justice, he promised.
An intelligence operative and the crime branch chief for the Syedabad district of central Maidan Wardak province were among 14 individuals detained on charges of election rigging, he said.
Siddiqui added security for Saturday’s ballot was better than expected. The good security environment would prevail until the results were made public, he continued.
Armed rebels had been unable to disrupt the poll process, Siddiqui said, adding the insurgents were stopped in their tracks by security personnel.
