Kandahar voters enthused by graffiti

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Conveying a variety of messages, including peace and good governance, graffiti can be seen on walls of main buildings in southern Kandahar City.
Besides drawings of pigeons and others objects, one of the common messages scribbled on walls says: “Your vote can usher in an era of progress and peace.
The pictures painted with great skill attract thousands of people daily, motivating them to cast their vote for a bright tomorrow and elect a competent head of state.
In Kandahar, the birthplace of the Taliban whose excruciating rule saw millions of Afghans migrating to different countries around the world, graffiti has emerged as a powerful tool of canvassing.
Although the literacy rate here is not as high as it should be, residents have been evincing a keen interest in watching the drawings and trying to comprehend the message.
Amanullah Darakhshan, head of the Kandahar Arts Council, told Pajhwok Afghan News his colleagues and he had painted a large number of graffito not only in the provincial capital but also in town of Arghandab.
