KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai's submission of a second list of 16 cabinet nominees to the Wolesi Jirga, Lower House of Parliament, for approval is a key step towards strengthening democracy in Afghanistan. The Canadian ambassador to Kabul said on Sunday: "This is an important step for the democratic process in Afghanistan and Canada encourages Afghan parliamentarians to exercise their constitutional responsibility to review and confirm a final cabinet." In a press statement mailed to Pajhwok Afghan News, William Crosbie said: "We understand that once again the qualifications of these candidates will be considered by Parliament, followed by a vote of confidence." He added Canada looked forward to the completion of the process so that the important work of the government might continue. "Canada stands ready to work with the new ministers towards improving security, strengthening democratic and accountable national institutions and delivery of basic services." mud/pr
