KABUL (PAN): Final results of provincial council elections for Herat, Takhar, Kandahar and Nimroz provinces were announced on Saturdayâ€.†An IEC press release said the results were unveiled following their approval from the UN-backed Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC). All candidates were afforded the opportunity to file complains with the ECC after the unveiling of preliminary resultsâ€.†The release said the ECC carried out due investigations of suspicious ballot boxes and assessments to ensure transparency in the pollsâ€.†The release said the final results were declared after the announcement of preliminary results on 26th of September and 27th of October, 2009 to ensure impartiality in the electoral process. The candidates were given an opportunity to challenge the results published by the commission with on hand proofs and keeping in touch with the ECC in order to lay their complaints so that they can be legally followed upâ€.†Takhar provinces is possessing 15 seats, including four earmarked for women and Herat province is possessing 19 seats in which 5 seats earmarked for womenâ€.†Kandahar provinces have 15 seats, with four reserved for women and Nimroz province have 9 seats with 3 seats earmarked for womenâ€.†The Provincial Councils final results are available at the website of IEC (www.iec.org.af/results/index.html).
