Abdullah to develop Baghlan’s mining sector

KABUL (Pajhwok): Presidential runner Dr Abdullah Abdullah on Saturday addressed a campaign rally in northern Baghlan province, explaining his future plans for the country.
Abdullah, who arrived in Pul-i-Khumri along with his running mates, addressed thousands of people in the provincial capital. He promised giving special attention to Baghlan in his future development programmes.
The former foreign minister said he would attract investments to the mining sector and improve Baghlan residents’ access to electricity if he won the April 5 elections.
He also vowed to develop the Baghlan’s Kilagi dam into a hydropower power plant on a priority basis, saying his agenda would focus on public welfare.
His choice for vice-president, Mohammad Mohaqiq, told the gathering they would work to develop Baghlan’s economy, education sector and infrastructure.
He asked the participants to take part in the elections and play their role in preventing fraud.
A resident of Doshi district, Sultan Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News he supported Abdullah’s clear plans for Afghanistan’s future.
Another resident of the district, Maulvi Ghayasuddin, said President Karzai’s government had not been able to honour its promises concerning reconstruction projects in Baghlan.
