Civil society to monitor elections in Ghor

 
CHAGHCHARAN (Pajhwok): A civil society network on Saturday opened an office in northwestern Ghor province in a bid to ensure transparency and monitoring the upcoming elections.
The network--- consists of 24 provincial civil society institutions--- officially opened its office in Chaghcharan, the provincial capital in order to monitor the April 5 presidential and provincial council elections.
Habibullah Alakozai, a representative of Agency for Afghanistan Development and Reconstruction, told Pajhwok Afghan News they were striving to ensure nationwide transparency in ballot.
Khudayar Waqif, a member of civil society network, said civil society organizations would create public awareness with regard of fair polls in the country.
“There is dire need to build masses’ trust about the ballot process and the civil society organizations are serving this area,” he added.
Attifa Naadem, another civil society activist, said women have considerable presence in the group and could persuade others to take hectic parts in the country’s landmark elections.
“We join the network in a move to monitor the process and defend women’s rights. The civil society network can help facilitates transparent elections. We thoroughly monitor any rigging or fraud attempt by any individual,” she remarked.
