KABUL (Pajhwok): A number of elders, religious scholars and lawmakers from central Maidan Wardak province on Friday announced support to presidential candidate Zalmai Rassoul in the April 5 elections.
Hasibullah Kalimzai, heading the group, said they supported Rassoul because he had better understanding of internal and external affairs and could rid the country of the current crisis and challenges.
“We back Rassoul because he is neither involved in corruption nor in bloodshed,” he argued, urging the candidate to ensure peace in the country, wage a decisive fight against graft and create jobs.
No development projects had been done in his province during the last 12 years, Kalimzai complained, saying the people of Wardak were not satisfied with the performance of the incumbent government.
Speaking on the occasion, Rassoul thanked the group for extending support to him. He promised to initiate a gigantic development programme in Maidan Wardak to address grievances of the locals.
“My team can win the ballot with support from the people of Wardak. I will try my level best to fulfill all my promises if I win the election,” he concluded.
