Weesa orders security boost on highways, borders

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The governor on Wednesday asked security organs to ensure elections candidates were provided adequate security during the electioneering in southern Kandahar province.
Dr. Tooryalai Weesa told the weekly security meeting that militant activities had been curtailed in Kandahar City, the provincial capital, and districts as a result of ongoing security operations.
The governor asked campaigners of candidates and workers to register with the provincial administration so that security forces could provide them security.
He also said special attention should be paid to the city’s cleanliness during the electioneering and posters should not be displayed in improper places.
At the meeting, Mayor Qazi Mohammad Omar Omar said his department had identified places for erecting billboards and pasting posters.
Security high-ups told the meeting operations to suppress militant activity were underway and a large number of rebels were killed and a huge quantity of arms and explosives seized over the past one week.
