KABUL (Pajhwok): The third faction of Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA), including some senior government figures, on Saturday announced its support to presidential runner Dr. Zalmai Rassoul.
Several HIA members viewed ex-foreign minister as a candidate who could take the country out of the current situation, according to a statement from Rassoul’s campaign office.
The statement added the team, it won the election, would work for good governance and delivery of basic services. It did not name the individuals who pledged support to the former minister
But a credible source said Paktia Governor Juma Khan Hamdard, Education Minister Ghulam Farooq Wardak, Agriculture Minister Asif Rahimi, Minister of Mines Waheedullah Sabawoon, Akbar Barakzai and Qazi Amin Wiqad had vowed support to Rassoul.
