KABUL (PAN): A large number of Kabul residents, supporting the preliminary poll results announced by the Independent Election Commission (IEC), have warned of a boycott if the elections went into a second round.

"We urge all presidential hopefuls to respect the preliminary results of the landmark elections" said Dr. Abdul Azim Ahmadzai, who arranged Thursday's gathering.

Another participant, Dr. Hayatullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News announcement of the results was IEC's discretion and the outcome should be respected.

Urging IEC to announce the final result as soon as possible, the resident of 11th police district saw no point in criticism of the IEC and the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC). The critics should have voiced their reservations about the two panels before the polls, he argued.

At the end of the event, attended by more than 300 dwellers of different districts of Kabul, a four-point resolution was passed. The resolution asked all presidential aspirants and the international community to endorse the results announced by the IEC.

The resolution -- supporting the preliminary results -- also urged the global fraternity and election observers not to interfere in internal affairs of the IEC.
