KABUL (PAN): Residents of central Pajnsher and Parwan provinces on Saturday announced support to the preliminary results of the August 20 presidential elections.

In this connection, a gathering of around 3,000 people was organized here on Saturday.

The participants lashed out at the European Union Observation Mission to (EUEOMA) for its declaration of 1.5 million votes as suspicious, saying it could force the elections into a second round which was not affordable.

The mission has called for recount of the suspicious votes.

The team has told a news conference two days back that 1.1 million votes filed for Karzai had dubious status. The team said Dr. Abdullah had 0.3 million and Bashardost had 93,000 doubtful votes in their ballot boxes.

Karzai's assistant campaign manager in Panjsher, Hasan-ul-Mab Burhan Amiri said the EUEOMA had no proof for its claim.

Maulana Fazal Adeeb who also spoke on the occasion said: "If the international community wants democracy flourished in Afghanistan, they should respect the vote."

He said Afghans braved the security threats and cast their ballots. "It was not an easy task to cast vote in such circumstances, but easy to make allegation."

The gathering concluded as the participants chanted 'Allah-o-Akbar (God is great) and 'long live Mohammad Qasim Fahim', the designated second vice-president of Karzai's new administration.
