UNAMA to close Khost office in 2 weeks

KABUL (PAN): The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) on Saturday announced closing nine of its regional offices in the country. The mission’s office in Khost province will be shut in two weeks.
UNAMA’s deputy country director told the Khost Development Conference the mission started closing provincial offices two years ago. The Khost office will be wound up by the end of the current month.
Although the UNAMA would not have offices in provinces, the mission would continue to support them through other branches, he said.
But Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi voiced concern at the closure of the UNAMA office in Khost, asking the mission to reverse its decision.
According to the governor, more than 35,000 people would be rendered jobless if international organisations closed their offices in Khost.
