New political party comes into existence

KABUL (PAN): Seeking to defend human rights and national interests, a new political party called “Harkat-i-Milli” -- involving intellectuals, academicians and influential figures -- came into existence on Wednesday.
Announcing the party’s launch at a press conference in Kabul, the National Movement central leader and spokesman Mohammad Ishaqzai said they had long been deliberating on the party’s creation.
He said the party involved intellectuals, culturists, academicians, civil society activists and influential figures. The aim was to steer the country out of crises including violence and protecting human rights and national interests, he said of the party’s manifesto.
Ishaqzai said a big party gathering would be organised over the next three weeks. He said thousands of people across the country and supporters of the party in foreign countries were expected to attend the assembly.
He said the gathering was aimed at sharing the party’s motive and mission with the Afghans and making decisions accordingly.
Leaders of the party would also be elected at the gathering which would make a decision on whether to field the party’s own candidate or support another candidate in next year’s presidential elections, Ishaqzai continued.
He claimed the party had Afghan supporters in Europe, the US, Canada, Australia and other foreign countries. The party has shared its programmes with officials and lawmakers in foreign countries, he added.
He claimed Princesses Hindia, the daughter of former King Ghazi Amanullah Khan, and other prominent figures, including tribal elders and youth, had joined the party.
