Harkat-i-Islami discounts grand alliance

ABUL (PAN): The Harkat-i-Islami of Afghanistan, dubbing the grand electoral alliance as a coalition of sorts, said on Sunday it was in talks with other political groups to introduce a single candidate for the 2014 presidential vote.
Syed Hussain Anwari, the party leader, told Pajhwok Afghan News his group had not yet joined any coalition, including the grand electoral alliance.
He said they supported any political move toward nominating a consensus presidential runner, but they should not think that all parties were part of the alliance or followed its line on different issues.
Anwari referred on a recent meeting at the second vice president’s residence, saying government officials should avoid taking power to their homes. Such gatherings should not rake up sectarian and tribal issues.
Supporting more opportunities for youth, Anwari alleged high government positions had degenerated into mafia. His party was in negotiation with different political forces on how to tackle the problems facing the country, he added.
The Harkat-i-Islami recently held talks with Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf’s party, but the two sides failed to reach a broad understanding, Anwary concluded.
