35 ISAF supply trucks torched, 6 drivers killed

FARAH CITY (PAN): Six drivers have been killed and 35 NATO supply trucks torched following a militant attack in the Bala Baluk district of western Farah province, officials said on Wednesday.
The convoy of 40 fuel tankers came under mortar fire in Farah Rod area last evening, the governor’s spokesman, Abdur Rahman Zhwandai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
One of the vehicles caught fire as a result of the assault, he said, adding the fire soon spread to other tankers, leaving at least six drivers dead and 35 vehicles burnt. Another 10 drivers and cleaners suffered burn injuries in the blaze.
But provincial police spokesman Najibullah Afghan said four drivers were killed and 15 Public Order Police officials wounded in the overnight incident.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the assault. At least four International Security Assistance Force fuel supply trucks had been destroyed in a rebel attack in the district on Aug. 15.
