JALALABAD (PAN): Grant Kippen, head of the Electoral Complaints Commission, met with provincial council candidates during his visit to the eastern province of Nangarhar on Saturday.

More than 270 candidates met Kippen who kept him abreast of the problems and difficulties they were confronting with in the elections process.

In a brief chat with this scribe, Kippen said his visit to the province was aimed at meeting the provincial council candidates to know about their problems.

"I told them how to lodge their complaints with the ECC, if any," he added.

Kippen said they had tasked poll supervisors with overseeing the election process and reporting to the commission in case of any fraud in the process.

However, a candidate named Ahmad Shah Omari, said Kippen only listened to their problems, but gave no suggestion or assurance to resolution of their problems.

He said one of their major problems was lack of female workers at the women polling stations and establishment of their centers close to those of presidential candidates.

Shir Hassan Kamalzai, another candidate, said most the electoral officials had been appointed in their native areas and feared fraud in connivance with the candidates of their areas.

275 candidates in the province are contesting in the provincial council elections.
