GARDEZ (PAN): A would-be car suicide bomber has been arrested in southeastern Paktika province before he could reach his target, police said on Wednesday.
Police detained the bomber in Gardez, the provincial capital, said Lt. Gen. Zalmai Oryakhel, the provincial police chief.
He indentified the detainee as Gulab Jan, a resident of southern Ghazni province, saying he intended to carry out the attack in Gardez.
Gulab Jan was shown to reporters, saying he had been in Pakistan for the past two years studying religion.
He was trained and tasked with a suicide attack in Afghanistan by the Haqqani network in the Waziristan region.
