 LASHKARGAH (PAN): Two hundreds policemen have completed a short-term police training course to strengthen their ability to ensure security for the August 20 elections in the volatile southern province of Helmand.
A graduation ceremony held in this regard here on Wednesday was attended by Deputy Helmand governor Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal and some high ranking police officials.
Director General of education and training at the interior ministry, Major General Gul Nabi Ahmadzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News the graduated police officials would assist other police, Afghan National Army (ANA) and Internal Security Assistance Force troops in ensuring the security of polling stations during the elections.
According to him, 45000 policemen would support the ANA and foreign forces in maintaining the security of polling centers.
Ahmadzai said in the districts, under control of government, the people would cast their vote by visiting the polling stations without any fear.
He said the government has been planning to strengthen the police force, especially in Helmand.
Ahmadzai said the police had made positive changes in their behavior with the people.
Speaking on the occasion, Mirzakwal called upon the police to perform their duty with devotion and prove themselves as real servants of the society.
