KABUL (PAN): Several public gatherings were organised in support of some presidential candidates in different parts of the country on Monday.


A women gathering in southeastern Khost province voiced support to Dr Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, a key challenger to President Hamid Karzai in the elections.


Addressing the gathering, a member of the parliament, Sahira Sharif, urged the participants to vote for Ghani, alleging the current government was only making promises about women development, but in practical was doing nothing.


In eastern Nangarhar province, a gathering of culturist people also supported Ashraf Ghani.


Similarly, in northern Saripul, a gathering attended by thousands of people including religious scholars, representatives of tribes and former jihadi commanders pledged support to Mirwais Yasini, another presidential candidate.


On the occasion, Yasini revealed his future plans.


In eastern Nangarhar, students of the Nangarhar University organized a gathering also attended by hundreds of people from Shinwar district and representatives of Pashae tribe in favour of Yasini.


In southern Helmand, hundreds of people supported the incumbent president Hamid Karzai, who is seeking his reelection.


In northern Balkh province, 3500 followers of Dr Abdullah Abdullah held separate gatherings while tens of tribal leaders and national traders voiced support to Dr Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai at a gathering held at Hairatan Port in the province. Another gathering of thousands of people voiced support to Ghani in Saripul province.
