TIRINKOT/AIBAK CITY (PAN): Separate public meetings were held in northern Samangan and southern Uruzgan provinces in support of presidential candidates Ramazan Bashardost and Hamid Karzai on Sunday.


The gathering in Uruzgan was arranged by a member of the provincial council, Muhammad Hanif Hanifi. About 600 people attended the gathering, who pledged support to Hamid Karzai in his reelection bid.


Abdul Hamid, a tribal elder of Churi district, told the gathering that Karzai was a symbol of national unity and demanded of the people to use their votes wisely and without ethnic and cultural differences.


Another presidential hopeful Dr. Ramazan Bashardost addressed a public meeting in the Aibak city of northern Samangan province.


Speaking on the occasion, Bashardost spelled out his plans for development of the country and facilities to the people.


Participants of the gathering told this scribe that Bashardost had resigned as minister of planning because he was against the corruption by foreign NGOs.


They said Bashardost was an educated person and has ability to steer the country out of the prevailing crises.
