Bridge linking 3 towns with Tirinkot opens

TIRINKOT (PAN): A newly-constructed bridge, connecting three districts with Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, was inaugurated on Saturday.

Governor Amir Mohammad Akhundzada, who attended the inauguration ceremony along with other provincial officials, said the bridge linked Deh Rawud, Charchino and Sarab districts with the provincial capital.

Built over a river in the Sarkhom area on the outskirts of Tirinkot, the bridge is 45 metres long and seven metres wide, according to Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director Eng. Mohammad Hashimi.

The project took nine months to complete and cost more than $550,000. It also involved the construction of a retaining wall, he said.

Resident Malik Ghulam Nabi said dwellers of the three districts would remain cut off from Tirinkot during the winter when water level increased in the river.
